You can begin taking driving lessons once you have received your learner permit
You need to take 12 mandatory driving lessons in order to be able to apply for your full driving test. Practice is important in between each driving lesson to get up to test standard. Its unlikely that 12 hours in a car will have you ready for the driving test.
The driving test is about 40 minutes long

Frequency of driving lessons
Continuity of driving lessons is really important. The more often you’re behind the wheel the better. Between 2 to 5 hours driving lessons plus driving practice per week is recommended. You’re also likely to progress more quickly the more time you are in the car.
12 EDT lessons are mandatory driving lessons and must be completed in order to sit the full driving test. However, depending on practice the number of driving lessons can vary massively as everyone learns driving at different speeds. Your aim should be somewhere between 30-60 hours of driving experience before passing your driver test.
Depending on the level of driving. Take a Pre-test in good time before the driving test so that you can have enough time to get ready.
Yes you can hire a car from your driving instructor to sit for your test.
